How to Work With Any Full Moon β€” A Simple Ritual for Release and Renewal

How to Work With Any Full Moon β€” A Simple Ritual for Release and Renewal - The Mystical Moon Online Store

Every month, without fail, the full moon arrives. And every month, without fail, I hear some version of the same question from clients, students, and members of our community: "I know I'm supposed to do something with the full moon β€” but what exactly?"

I love this question. Because it tells me that something in you already knows the full moon matters. You just haven't been given a simple, honest road map for working with it yet. So let me give you one.

What the Full Moon Actually Is β€” Energetically

The full moon is the peak of the lunar cycle. It is the moment of maximum light β€” when everything that has been growing since the new moon reaches its fullest expression. Emotionally, this often means that whatever you have been feeling quietly starts to feel louder. Whatever you have been avoiding starts to feel more present. Whatever is ready to shift starts to make itself known.

This is not something to be afraid of. It is something to work with.

The full moon is not a time for planting new seeds. That is new moon energy. The full moon is a time for harvesting what has grown, acknowledging where you are, and releasing what no longer belongs in the next chapter of your life. Think of it as a monthly invitation to lighten your load.

You Don't Need Much to Do This Well

One of the things I want to gently push back on is the idea that a meaningful full moon ritual requires a lot of tools, a lot of time, or a lot of expertise. It doesn't. What it requires is presence. Intention. And a willingness to be honest with yourself. Everything else is just support.

A Simple Full Moon Ritual for Release and Renewal

Here is the ritual I return to every single month. It takes about twenty to thirty minutes and you can do it anywhere.

What You'll Need

  • A candle β€” any candle you love, or one set with intention
  • A journal and pen
  • A quiet space where you won't be interrupted
  • Optional: a crystal that supports release β€” black tourmaline, smoky quartz, labradorite, or obsidian all work beautifully

Step One β€” Settle and Arrive

Light your candle. Sit comfortably. Take three slow, deep breaths and let yourself actually arrive in the moment. Put your phone face down. Let the to-do list wait. This time is yours.

Step Two β€” Acknowledge Where You Are

Before you release anything, take a moment to recognize what this lunar cycle has brought you. Ask yourself: what have I experienced this month? What has grown? What has been challenging? What surprised me? Write it down without editing. This isn't about gratitude lists or positive thinking. It's about honest witnessing.

Step Three β€” Identify What Is Ready to Go

This is the heart of the full moon ritual. Ask yourself one question and let yourself answer it truthfully: What am I carrying that is no longer mine to carry?

This might be a belief about yourself. A resentment you've been holding. A version of your story that kept you safe once but is now keeping you small. A relationship dynamic, a habit, a fear. There is no wrong answer. Write it down. Be specific. The more honest you are, the more powerful this becomes.

Step Four β€” Release It

Read what you wrote out loud. Then say β€” in your own words β€” that you are ready to let it go. You can write a simple statement like:

"I release ______. It has served its purpose. I am ready to move forward without it."

Some people like to burn what they've written as a physical act of release. If you do this, please do so safely β€” outdoors or over a fireproof dish. Others prefer to simply close the journal and let the intention stand. Both work. What matters is the sincerity behind it.

Step Five β€” Call In What You Are Making Room For

Release always creates space. And space always wants to be filled with intention rather than left to chance. After your release, write one thing you are calling in to take its place. Not a long list β€” just one clear, true thing. Something your soul actually wants, not something you think you should want.

Step Six β€” Close With Gratitude

Thank yourself for showing up. Thank the moon for holding space. Blow out your candle or let it burn in a safe place while you rest.

That's it. That's the ritual.

A Few Things I Want You to Remember

You don't have to do this perfectly. The moon doesn't grade you. What matters is that you showed up, got honest, and chose β€” even in a small way β€” to move toward the life you actually want.

You also don't have to wait for a special moon. Every full moon is a full moon. Every one of them is an invitation. The Blue Moons, the Supermoons, the eclipses β€” they all carry their own amplified energy, yes. But the ordinary full moon that arrives every twenty-nine days is already extraordinary. You just have to meet it.

I have been doing some version of this ritual for years. And what I can tell you β€” from my own experience and from walking alongside hundreds of clients and students β€” is that it works. Not in a dramatic, overnight way. But in the quiet, cumulative way that real transformation actually happens. Month by month. Moon by moon. You lighten. You clarify. You become more yourself. And that, to me, is the whole point.

If you'd like support on your lunar journey, our crystal candles are crafted with full moon rituals in mind β€” each one Reiki-infused and set with intention to support your practice. Browse the Moonstone Priestess collection at TheMysticalMoon.com.
