There's a stretch every summer where things start to feel different, and most people notice it before they have a name for it. A restlessness. A pull toward something you've been circling for months without landing on. That's usually the Lion's Gate.
What the Lion's Gate Portal actually is
The Lion's Gate is the window each year when the Sun moves through Leo and the star Sirius rises again in the dawn sky after weeks below the horizon. The portal opens around July 26 and stays open into mid-August, cresting on 8/8.
Sirius is the brightest star we can see from Earth, and the ancient Egyptians built a calendar around its return โ its rising signaled the Nile's flood, which meant the land would feed everyone for another year. A star comes back, and abundance follows. That association has held for thousands of years, and I don't think that's an accident.
Why 8/8
The eighth day of the eighth month sits at the center of the window, and eight has carried the same meaning across almost every tradition I've studied. Turn it on its side and it's infinity. In numerology it's the number of power, money, authority, and cause meeting effect. Double it and you've got a day that's essentially about what you're willing to claim.
Leo rules the heart and the identity โ the part of you that wants to be recognized. So the gateway isn't only about attracting things. It's about being visible enough to receive them.
What this portal is really asking
Here's where I'd push back on how the Lion's Gate usually gets talked about. It's not a wish-granting machine, and it isn't a deadline. You are not going to miss your window if you don't perform the right ritual on the right morning.
What it does is amplify. Whatever you're actually being โ bold or hesitant, honest or hedging โ this window turns the volume up on it.
Which means the useful question isn't what do I want. It's: where am I still making myself smaller than I am?
Most of us know the answer immediately. It's the conversation we keep not having, the price we keep not raising, the thing we keep calling a hobby. Leo season has no patience for that, and this portal even less.
Simple ways to work with it
You don't need anything elaborate. A few things I come back to every year:
Say it out loud. Not written, not thought โ spoken. There's a particular kind of nerve required to hear your own voice claim something, and that nerve is exactly what this window is built for.
Get in the sun. Ten minutes, early. Leo is a solar sign and Sirius is a star; this is not a portal you meet in a dark room. Let it be on your skin.
Do the visible thing. Post the work. Send the message. Tell the person. One act of being seen does more here than an hour of visualizing.
Notice what shows up between now and mid-August. Portals tend to answer sideways โ an unexpected email, someone offering exactly the thing you'd stopped asking for. Pay attention to the sideways.
Light something. A flame gives your intention somewhere to land, and it marks the moment as different from the rest of the day. That matters more than people expect.
Crystals for the gateway
Sunstone is the one I reach for first. It carries the sun's own vitality โ it dissolves self-doubt, restores confidence, and calls joy and leadership back in. Where the darker stones ask you to look inward, Sunstone asks you to rise and take up space.
Citrine for abundance and momentum. Tiger's Eye for courage when you need to act before you feel ready. Clear Quartz if you want to amplify whatever you've set.
Hold one while you speak your intention. Carry it through 8/8. That's genuinely all there is to it.
One last thing
Every year when this portal opens, I get the same quiet nudge โ the reminder that playing small was never my assignment. It was never yours either.
The door is open for about two weeks. You don't have to have it all figured out to walk through it. You just have to stop waiting.
Step boldly. Shine brightly. ๐ฆ

P.S. โ I created a Lion's Gate candle for this year's portal, finished with genuine Sunstone and blessed here at the shop. There are only thirty. See it here.
